Philosophy of Counseling

We are all inherently worthy of safety, health, respect, and love, and healing and growth is possible for every client. Counseling is not an end-all, fix-all. We often need therapy for different seasons, sometimes weekly, then biweekly, then monthly “maintenance sessions.” Some growth requires more time, varied interventions, or medication in addition to counseling.

In order to tailor an approach that is unique to you and your needs, I utilize a combination of trauma-informed, effective, strengths-based interventions and theories like Emotionally-Focused Therapy, The Gottman Method for couples, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Attachment-Based Therapy.

In order to provide the best counseling to my clients, I am committed to ongoing research and learning, ethical care, accountability, and my own personal self-care. To meet the needs of clients who cannot afford my full counseling rates, I maintain 5 sliding scale spots in my caseload, accessible through Open Path Collective. Additionally, I am pursuing credentialing with several private insurance companies.

When you log into our virtual sessions, my hope is that you experience a space where you feel supported, heard, valued, advocated for, and equipped to accomplish your therapeutic goals so that you feel better as soon as possible. If you’re not experiencing that in our sessions, I hope that you’ll be willing to trust me with that feedback, and I will do my best to accommodate you. However, not every therapist is the best fit for every client, so if we meet and you feel that I’m not the best fit for your counseling needs, I am happy to provide other quality counseling referrals.

If you think that we might be a good fit, I hope that you will reach out! I look forward to meeting with you.
